Single Songs Thoughts

About this Blog

A friend wanted to expand her musical horizons a little bit, so she asked me to send her one new song every day, just for fun. She said she wanted music that was new to her. I asked if she’d heard of The Beta Band. She told me she hadn’t, so I sent Dry the Rain as her first song-of-the-day.

My head went straight to the following scene in High Fidelity.

The next day I sent her another song. Then another. Then another. After a few days I was really enjoying the way this started to make me think. I realized that considering song-a-day candidates is worthwhile in and of itself. It’s an interesting decision-making process that I’m trying to make sense of still. So, I made this website to keep a record of my new-found exercise.

This blog is the personal journal of one guy’s meandering musical tastes and whims, and likely will include more than just music. The goal is to document my own internal thought process over time. This is ultimately only for me. If you like it too, that’s nice, but that’s not my intent. I may maintain this project daily, I may slow down at some point and find a different pace, or I may lose inspiration and stop altogether. At some point, due to future neglect, this site will eventually turn into a dormant time capsule. Who knows when that will be, though.

We’ll see how it goes. No expectations. The journey is the destination.

I call this “Plenty,” because that’s where many of us exist: in a land of plenty. We live in a time of abundance where we have unprecedented resources at our fingertips. Every book, painting, podcast, song, photo, movie, food is available to us in one way or another. Ancient monarchs could have never imagined what we have. (What poverty they suffered!) The posts I make here highlight some of the more delightful morsels that have fed me throughout my numbered days in this endless place.

Thanks, Angela, for making such a simple request!

Cheers,

Plenty
